The Los Angeles Dodgers assumed some risk when they signed Trevor Bauer to a record-setting contract during the offseason, but up until this year most of the concerns had been based on his comments and behavior on social media.

However, the end of June brought about allegations of sexual assault and a San Diego woman obtaining an ex parte temporary restraining order. Major League Baseball placed Bauer on paid administrative leave July 2, and he has remained on the restricted list since that point.

Each week, MLB and the Players Association have agreed to extend the administrative leave amid ongoing investigations by both the league and Pasadena Police Department.

According to Jorge Castillo of the L.A. Times, the leave was extended for a sixth time and now runs through Friday, Aug. 27:

Trevor Bauer’s paid administrative leave from the Dodgers was extended Thursday through Aug. 27, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, marking the sixth time Major League Baseball and the players’ union have lengthened the pitcher’s leave after he was accused of sexual assault in late June.

The agreement between MLB and the MLBPA came after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied a request from the San Diego woman for the restraining order to be made permanent. Under California law, that could have been in place for a maximum of five years.

Though a civil dispute is now settled, the ruling by L.A. Superior Court judge Dianna Gould-Saltman does not bring any sort of conclusion to the separate investigations being carried out by MLB and Pasadena police.

Furthermore, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred still has the authority to levy a suspension even if criminal charges are never filed against Bauer.

Report: Kasten addressed Bauer investigation

The Dodgers have largely deferred to MLB with matters pertaining to Bauer’s situation, which has earned them criticism from those outside of the organization.

According to a report, Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten addressed the investigations into Bauer in an email to team employees.
