Dodgers News: Trea Turner ‘Fine’ After Being Hit By Pitch In Head

Freddie Freeman and Trea Turner are the only players who have been in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for every game this season, and they remain locked in a race to finish as the MLB hits leader.

Freeman pulled two ahead of Turner on Sunday by going 2-for-5 in the Dodgers’ 8-1 win over the Miami Marlins. But of more concern was Turner being hit by a pitch in the head during the fifth inning. The 96 mph sinker from Marlins starter Edward Cabrera skimmed off the back of Turner’s helmet and sent him down the ground.

Turner’s helmet came off and he initially gathered his bearings while on his knees. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert rushed out of the dugout to check on Turner, who walked to first base and remained in the game.

After the win, Turner downplayed the matter and said he came away unscathed, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I’m fine,” Turner said after the game. “I’ve been lucky. I’ve gotten hit in the head a few times. Every time it seems to hit me in a decent spot. So I’m not going to ask questions.”

Immediately after assuring Roberts and Albert he was fine, Turner easily stole second base on Cabrera’s next pitch. However, he wound up being stranded as Freeman flied out to deep left field.

Prior to being hit in the head, the day had already been eventful for Turner as he was mic’d up for the Peacock stream. He jokingly blamed the broadcasters for being a jinx due to Julio Urías allowing a solo home run, and booted a routine grounder before recovering to make the throw.

That earned some ribbing from Justin Turner, who the All-Star shortstop referred to as the “peanut gallery.”

When will Dodgers rest Trea Turner?

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently indicated Freeman and Turner would continue to start every game until the team clinches the National League West.
