The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Rich Hill from the 10-day disabled list on the first day he was eligible to be activated, and optioned Trayce Thompson to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The roster move gives the Dodgers 13 pitchers on their active roster.
Hill starts Sunday afternoon in the third of a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list April 7, retroactive to April 6, with a blister on his left middle finger.
Chronic blisters sidelined him for five weeks last season. But the Dodgers and Hill maintained the latest issue was nowhere near as severe. He returns having missed just one scheduled start — against the Chicago Cubs in their home opener.
With Hill back in the rotation, it puts Alex Wood in the bullpen. He pitched in relief on Saturday, firing 3.1 hitless innings.
Thompson, who joined the Dodgers from Oklahoma City on April 12, went hitless in eight at-bats over three games. Albeit in limited time, Thompson’s struggles at the plate were an extension of his time in Triple-A.
He was 0-for-13 with one run scored, one RBI, two walks and six strikeouts in five games with OKC prior to the promotion.
Thompson batted .225/.302/.436 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 32 RBI over 80 games with the Dodgers last season. His year came to an end in July due to multiple fractured vertebrae that Thompson said he’s since made a full recovery from.
