The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Tony Cingrani and optioned Brock Stewart to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Cingrani is the last of the Dodgers’ three acquisitions at the non-waiver trade deadline to be placed on the active roster.
Cingrani was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Scott Van Slyke and Hendrick Clementina. The left-handed relievers was selected by the Reds in the third round of the 2011 Draft. He made his MLB debut with the team in September 2012.
In 25 relief appearances for the Reds this season, Cingrani yielded a 5.40 ERA, 7.01 FIP and 1.33 WHIP. He fared well prior to the All-Star break, posting a 2.70 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 18 games.
During the unofficial second half of the season, Cingrani has allowed a combined nine runs in 6.2 over seven games.
In 8.1 career innings at Dodger Stadium, Cingrani has allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out 12 batters. In his six Major League seasons, he owns a .219/.305/.407 line against left-handed hitters, while righties are batting .237/.338/.424.
Stewart made his second start of the season on Wednesday, and allowed two runs on three hits over four innings of work. He issued three walks while collecting just one strikeout. Stewart was pressed into the rotation with Clayton Kershaw and Brandon McCarthy landing on the disabled list.
Prior to making his first start, in which he allowed five unearned runs, Stewart had one save and combined to throw 13 scoreless innings, with 10 strikeouts against three walks in six games.
Although Stewart has primarily been utilized by the Dodgers out of the bullpen, the club views him as a starter long-term. The 25-year-old has a 3.24 ERA in three starts for Oklahoma City this season.
Stewart began the year on the disabled list because of a right shoulder tendinitis that cropped up during Spring Training.
