Dodgers News: Steve Garvey Hosting First ‘Grilling With The Garv’ Event Of 2019 Season To Begin Alumni Weekend At Dodger Stadium

Prior to the Los Angeles Dodgers facing the Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener of Alumni Weekend at Dodger Stadium, Steve Garvey will host the first “Grilling with The Garv” event of the 2019 season at King’s Hawaiian Grill in the left field plaza.

Beginning at 6 p.m. PT, Garvey will get on the grill to provide samples for fans and give them barbecuing tips. He additionally will take photos and sign autographs leading up to the 7:10 p.m. first pitch.

The “Grilling with The Garv” is one of two ongoing series Garvey regularly hosts at the King’s Hawaiian Grill. Earlier this month he led the discussion in the first “Way We Were” event of the season.

Among the food items available at the Grill are pulled pork sliders served on King’s Hawaiian original Hawaiian sweet rolls, smoked pork nachos, big island lava wings and a Hawaiian BBQ Dodger Dog that’s served on a King’s Hawaiian hot dog bun and topped with pulled pork and the company’s original sweet pineapple BBQ sauce.

The night after hosting his second event at Dodger Stadium, Garvey will officially be enshrined as the second member of the “Legends of Dodger Baseball” class. The induction ceremony will begin on the field at 6:40 p.m.

Coinciding with Garvey joining the late Don Newcombe as a member of the “Legends of Dodger Baseball,” the team is distributing a Steve Garvey bobblehead to the first 40,000 ticketed fans in attendance.

Garvey played 14 seasons with the Dodgers, was a member of four National League pennant-winning teams and the 1981 club that won the World Series. Garvey ranks highly among the all-time Los Angeles leaders in several categories, including hits (1,968; second), doubles (333; first), home runs (211; third), RBI (992; first) and games played (1,727; third).

Also prior to Saturday’s matchup with the Phillies is the annual Alumni Game that will feature more than 30 of the organization’s former players. In addition to Garvey, Billy Ashley, Ron Cey, Tommy Davis, Rick Honeycutt, Tommy Lasorda, Davey Lopes, Rick Monday, Manny Mota, Bill Russell, Valenzuela, Maury Wills and Steve Yeager are expected to make appearances.
