With the 2021 MLB All-Star Game well in the rearview mirror, all eyes will soon be on the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are set to host next year’s Midsummer Classic at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers initially were awarded the 2020 All-Star Game but the event got cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. L.A. wasn’t seriously considered for this year’s exhibition as it would’ve been too short of a notice.

The Dodgers have only hosted the All-Star Game on three occasions, including twice in L.A. and once at Dodger Stadium. When the Midsummer Classic returns to Chavez Ravine next year, it will mark the first time since 1980.

Of course, Dodger Stadium will also be the site of the Home Run Derby and Futures Game during All-Star week. There are other projects still in the works that will take place throughout the city of L.A. as well, adding to what figures to be an eventful few days.

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten is counting down the days to what should be a historic week, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

“We’re so excited to start the one-year countdown to 2022 All-Star week at Dodger Stadium, bringing the game back to Los Angeles for the first time in 42 years,” said Dodgers president Stan Kasten. “Los Angeles is ready to put on a show and reach fans with a week of activations throughout the city, including Play Ball Park, family-friendly entertainment and philanthropic projects that will leave a lasting legacy. It will be a great celebration of the great celebration of the game of baseball, and we know Dodger fans — and all Angelenos — are eager to experience everything All-Star week has to offer.”

With L.A. being one of the entertainment capitals of the world and the recent renovations completed at Dodger Stadium, next year’s All-Star festivities have the potential to be epic.

Roberts ‘can’t wait’ for 2022 MLB All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts echoed Kasten’s comments and is looking forward to the All-Star Game being played at Dodger Stadium next year. “It’s going to be special,” Roberts said of the exhibition finally arriving in Los Angeles.

“And I tell you, the Rockies and the City of Denver did a fantastic job. Just kind of facilitating and hosting the Home Run Derby, the game itself, all the accommodations were fantastic.

“But with next year, the City of Los Angeles, it’s obviously — it’s a long time coming and I know our city is going to do it right with the help of the Dodgers and it’s going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait. I hope I get to manage next year.”
