Former Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Ron Cey and Dave Stewart were inducted into the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame over the weekend. Richard “Dick” Moots, creator of the Albuquerque Dukes logo, was also part of the 2022 class honored during a pregame ceremony.

Cey played for both the Albuquerque Dodgers (1969-70) and Dukes (1972), becoming one of the most productive players in franchise history. He led the 1970 Albuquerque team with 22 doubles and ranked first on the historic 1972 Dukes roster in games played (142), hits (163) home runs (23), RBI (103) and walks (117).

Cey’s .331 batting average in 1970 and .329 average in 1972 both ranked second each season. Cey advanced from the Minor Leagues to enjoy a successful career that spanned parts of 17 seasons in the Majors.

He of course made a significant mark with the Dodgers, but also played for the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics before retiring.

Cey was part of the MLB and Dodgers history as a member of the longest-running infield that also featured Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes and Bill Russell. The group played eight seasons together and were an infield that was part of four National League pennant-winning teams, one World Series title and a slew of All-Star Game appearances.

Their final game together came during the 1981 World Series.

A six-time All-Star, Cey was part of the tri-MVPs of the 1981 World Series when the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in six games.

Stewart played for the Dukes in 1977 and from 1979-80. He won 27 games over two-plus seasons while in Albuquerque and helped lead the team to a Pacific Coast League championship in 1980.

Stewart made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 1978, though only appeared in one game. He returned to the Majors in 1981 with L.A., and also played for the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays during a 16-year career.

The right-hander won World Series with the Dodgers (1981), Athletics (1989) and Blue Jays (1993). Stewart was named 1989 World Series MVP and twice took home American League Championship Series MVP honors (1990, 1993).

However, Stewart was on the losing end against his former team when the Dodgers upset the A’s in the 1988 World Series.
