The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to earn a sweep over the New York Mets at Citi Field this weekend, with the final win coming in 11 innings behind a game-winning home run by Justin Turner.
While the story of the game was the Dodgers offense, as they slugged seven solo home runs off the Mets bullpen, including two apiece from Kiké Hernandez and Cody Bellinger, Rich Hill was also a big storyline.
The start was his second start since coming off the disabled list due to blister issues. Hill tossed six shutout innings against the Chicago Cubs in his return, but wasn’t quite as sharp this time around.
He made it through five innings, giving up five hits and four runs while striking out six with one walk. He was not able to find control of his offspeed stuff, which led to hitting three batters, all of whom eventually came around to score.
While the Dodgers were able to get the win, Hill was not happy with his performance in the game, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
“It was pretty sloppy,” Hill said of his five-inning outing. “Probably half the time, the ball didn’t come out of my hand the way I wanted it to. Obviously I’m really disappointed about it, just the execution of the pitches. That’s really about it. That really is going to bother me for a couple days.”
Hill has only pitched twice in the last month, so it would be unfair to expect him to be as sharp as he normally would be at this point in the season.
The important thing is that his blister has not flared up as the team will be counting on Hill to be a mainstay in their rotation moving forward given how many other injuries the team has been forced to deal with this season.
