Major League Baseball games are supposed to be fun, family-friendly events, but that isn’t always the case, and unfortunately that’s held true at Dodger Stadium on multiple occaions.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten off to a good start to the 2019 season, breaking multiple records during their Opening Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, it appears that excitement has not completely translated to a welcoming environment at Chavez Ravine.

According to ESPN, the Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating an altercation that took place in the Dodger Stadium parking lot after Friday night’s 13-inning game that led to a man being hospitalized:

A man was severely injured in an altercation at Dodger Stadium on Friday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers said they are cooperating with the police investigation into the incident.

“Last night, an altercation occurred suddenly between two men who were leaving the stadium,” the Dodgers said in a statement Saturday. “One of the men was injured as a result of the altercation. A witness immediately reported the incident to stadium personnel, and emergency medical technicians were promptly dispatched to provide medical assistance at the scene. The matter is now being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Dodgers are cooperating fully with the investigation.”

Police say they are investigating the encounter as an assault and looking for a person in their 20s who drove away in a white SUV. No arrests have been made.

This is not the first time that an altercation has taken place in the Dodger Stadium parking lot. The first incident that obviously comes to mind when this subject is raised is what happened to San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow on Opening Day in 2011.

Incidents like this taking place are very unfortunate and Dodger fans as a whole need to be better as Dodger Stadium is one of the nicest, most historic places to watch an MLB game. But it takes away from the fan experience if people are scared that they are going to get attacked when walking to their car.

We at DodgerBlue.com wish a speedy recovery for the man who was injured on Friday night.
