The Los Angeles Dodgers have been heavily involved in raising awareness and providing accessibility to the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine during the pandemic, and those efforts recently entailed Mookie Betts joining forces with Kroger Health.

Betts appeared at a local Ralphs, where he greeted customers and helped inform those in search of more information regarding the vaccine. “Just trying to get the world back to normal,” Betts said of his participation.

“Just pretty much everything in that realm, don’t want more people to get sick and like I said, just return to normal. That’s step one.”

Betts also thanked associates and frontline workers for their efforts over the past year.

To help motivate more Americans to get the vaccine, Kroger Health customers and associates are eligible for a chance to win one of five $1 million checks or groceries for a year in the #CommunityImmunity Giveaway through July 10.

While Betts has been lauded for his ability to make an impact on the field, the five-time All-Star has additionally been active in the community as well. Last August, he partnered with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation to provide essential items to those in need.

Then for Christmas, Betts and the LADF came together to gift pairs of the Air Jordan 11 Jubilee.

Betts ‘surprised’ by All-Star selection

The Dodgers’ only selections to the 2021 All-Star Game at Coors Field came via National League reserves in the form of Betts, Max Muncy and Chris Taylor. Many anticipated Muncy would be an All-Star Game starter, but Taylor was an overwhelming favorite to earn a first career selection.

Given his inconsistency this season, Betts didn’t expect to be named to the NL roster. “I was surprised,” he said. “Obviously I haven’t played that great, so yeah, I was definitely surprised. But also very thankful for making the team again. Definitely was surprised.”
