Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Trea Turner Advance As Finalists For MLB All-Star Game Voting

Mookie Betts and Trea Turner were named among the National League finalists in voting for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium. Betts and Turner advanced to Phase 2 of All-Star Game voting, but no other Los Angeles Dodgers made the cut.

Betts paced all NL players in two voting updates but couldn’t hold off a late push from the Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. Betts closed Phase 1 with 3,479,480 votes to 3,503,188 for Acuña.

An All-Star Game selection would be a sixth in Betts’ career, with each potentially coming consecutively when the Midsummer Classic has been held. However, this year would represent Betts’ first time playing in an All-Star Game for the Dodgers.

He opted out of the Midsummer Classic at Coors Field last season in favor of rest and recovery from nagging injuries.

Betts finds himself in a similar position this year as he is still recovering from a fractured rib. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said a return prior to the All-Star Game is likely, but not definitive. Betts recently began taking dry swings but experiences discomfort when attempting to throw.

As for Turner, he too is tracking to play in his first All-Star Game as a member of the Dodgers and second overall. He participated in the festivities at Coors Field last season prior to getting traded by the Washington Nationals.

Turner has been the leading vote-getter among NL shortstops for every update thus far.

All-Star Gam voting

Phase 2 of All-Star Game voting begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and concludes at 11 a.m. on July 8. Voting totals from Phase 1 do not carry over and fans can only complete one ballot every 24 hours during the period.

Pitchers and reserves for both All-Star teams will be determined by “Player Ballot” choices and selections made by the commissioner’s office. Complete All-Star Game rosters will be announced during a Selection Show on July 10.

All-Star Game starters will be revealed on Friday, July 8.
