Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Begins Offseason Hitting Program

Nearly two weeks removed from getting married and going on a honeymoon, Mookie Betts began his offseason hitting at M3 Baseball Training Facility in Antioch, Tennessee. Michael Coleman, owner of the facility, shared video of Betts and Brock Holt getting their swings in.

Although Betts married Brianna Hammonds at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and then vacationed in Mexico, a portion of the offseason is still spent in his native Tennessee.

The 29-year-old is coming off a down season by his standards, and one that can largely be explained by persistent right hip trouble that remained an issue until a second cortisone injection late in the year.

Fortunately for Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers, he’s expected to avoid surgery for the bone spur. Along with continued rehab for the injury, it can be presumed Betts will again look to incorporate basketball as part of his offseason workouts.

Even with two separate stints on the 10-day injured list because of the right hip trouble, Betts earned a fifth career All-Star Game selection and went on to finish the season batting .264/.367/.487 with 29 doubles, 23 home runs and 58 RBI.

Betts: Dodgers have to improve

Despite tying a franchise record with 106 wins, the Dodgers had their streak of National League West division titles snapped at eight and they fell short of repeating as World Series champions.

While acknowledging the team dealt with a rash of injuries throughout the year, Betts said they couldn’t be used as an excuse and the Dodgers simply need to improve next season in order to win the final game.
