The Los Angeles Dodgers realled Mitch White and optioned Josh Sborz prior to Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. White, who was on the taxi squad, joins the Dodgers’ active roster for a third time this season.
His latest arrival comes ahead of the Dodgers going with a bullpen game for a third time in the past week. Brusdar Graterol started the first two instances, and Alex Wood is scheduled to take the ball at Coors Field.
White made his MLB debut Aug. 28 against the Texas Rangers, allowing one hit and collecting one strikeout over a scoreless inning at Globe Life Field. The right-hander is a career 14-15 with a 3.97 ERA across five Minor League levels since being selected in the first round of the 2016 Draft.
White’s career development has been interrupted by multiple injuries, which led to some frustration but also amounted to a learning experience.
“It sucks in one sense but at the same time I don’t regret it. Stuff like that happens. Now I know how to take care of myself better,” White explained last month.
“Being in a training room with some of those guys, they’re insanely smart. All the stuff they work with on your body — it’s not just for baseball — it’s for life in general. Now I’m trying to teach my parents and family. I think it’s just cool stuff for anybody.”
White has also found a silver lining with the abnormal 2020 season in terms of remaining healthy due to flexibility and a controlled atmosphere at the Dodgers’ alternate training site. “At USC we have a little more control over the length of innings,” he said.
“Nothing really gets out of hand, we have really good care from the training staff, strength side, so it’s been great with that.”
Sborz optioned for fifth time
Sborz logged a season-high 1.1 innings in Thursday’s win against the Rockies. He’s allowed just one earned run in 4.1 innings across four appearances this season.
Although Sborz has been moved around with plenty of frequency this season, he’s encouraged by feeling much healthier as a result of changing his arm slot.
