Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Finding Success With Kiké Hernández Cleats

Julio Urías tied a career high with 12 strikeouts and Miguel Rojas drove in four runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned an 8-3 win over the Colorado Rockies to complete a four-game series sweep.

Rojas extended the Dodgers’ lead to 2-0 in the second inning when he hit a pop fly that was deemed an out via the infield fly rule. Brendan Rodgers lost the ball in the sun and it allowed Max Muncy to essentially tag up on the play and score.

Rojas then hit his second home run of the season in the fourth to break a tie. He went on to add two sacrifice flies to finish with a game-high four RBI.

Rojas was wearing the custom cleats that Adidas made Kiké Hernández, which he has done on multiple occasions this month. “I don’t know if I’m going to wear them every single day, but they’re definitely going to be at the top of my list,” Rojas said after the game.

Hernández said he and Rojas will continue wearing matching cleats when they play the infield together. “These are just one of the special cleats that Adidas made me,” Hernández began.

“He asked for a pair for when we play short and second. He got me ahead of time and wore them a couple nights ago, got a hit. He wore a pair in Arizona that I gave him, got a hit. Today, he had a really good offensive game. I think he rakes in my shoes, so they’re going to stay.”

Dave Roberts praises Kiké Hernández & Miguel Rojas

Hernández played in parts of six seasons with the Dodgers from 2015-2020, but this is the first time he is teammates with Rojas. The two were originally traded for each other in 2014.

“They’ve been around for quite some time, it’s the native tongue, a lot of respect, and Miguel is just great with everybody,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Hernández’s and Rojas’ friendship.

“But I do think you get two premium defenders who really are very high-IQ baseball guys, so a kinship was easily forged. I’m guessing Kiké was responsible for the shoes, so no surprise there.

“I’ve learned you’ve got to let guys be themselves, let them have fun as long as they play within the constructs of what we believe in. Those guys are at the top of the list.”
