Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Leaves Series Finale Against Giants With Left Hamstring Cramp

Miguel Rojas was in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup on Wednesday night for only the third time since April 2, but he was removed in the fourth inning of the series finale against the San Francisco Giants due to a left hamstring cramp.

Rojas began to stretch his left leg and signaled to the dugout asking for water after reaching on an infield single. Dodgers trainer Yosuke “Possum” Nakajima and manager Dave Roberts checked on Rojas, who was replaced by Chris Taylor.

Rojas initially attempted to stretch his left leg and continue playing prior to limping off the field.

He dealt with a right calf and foot cramp during Spring Training, and said at the time he has a history of suffering such trouble.

“Even going back to the Minors, just first games kind of trying to go two, trying to be careful, but this is something that always kind of got me,” Rojas said during the spring.

“I guess I need to do a real better job of hydrating and drinking more water and all that, but I just think it’s a cramp in my calf. And I even was feeling it a little bit on my foot. So I should be OK.”

Prior to returning for the series finale at Chase Field, Rojas missed five games because of left groin tightness. Wednesday was his first time making back-to-back starts since suffering the groin injury.

Dodgers, Miguel Rojas prioritized long-term view

Although the groin tightness was considered relatively minor, Rojas and the Dodgers erred on the side of caution and did not rush a return in the interest of avoiding a more serious setback.

With Gavin Lux missing the entire 2023 season because of a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee, and Rojas’ injury woes, the Dodgers are facing the prospect of needing to rely on Taylor at shortstop for a full-time basis.
