Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Recovered From Infection After Sports Hernia Surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers are fortunate enough to have some of Major League Baseball’s best veteran pieces. That includes Miguel Rojas, who enters his 12th season in the league.

Having a career year for the Dodgers in 2024, Rojas put the team in an advantageous position when he was able to fill in at shortstop when Mookie Betts went down with a fractured left hand. Rojas performed at a high clip with the skills he brings to the table, and did so while battling a sports hernia.

Rojas underwent hernia surgery during offseason, but unfortunately faced some complications following it.

“It wasn’t a normal offseason, for sure,” Rojas recently said. “I had a couple complications with the surgery. I had an infection that I had to battle through, but I’m fine. I’m good to go for Spring Training.

“I’m definitely built up, pretty close to 100% right now.”

Rojas went on to say that the infection pushed his ramp-up back a bit, but didn’t seem too concerned with how his overall preparation would be impacted.

“It felt like it was there and I couldn’t do anything for a couple weeks,” Rojas explained. “But at the end, everything worked out because I was supposed to be ready at eight weeks. I had a total of, like, 14 weeks throughout the whole offseason. I’m supposed to be really good for Spring Training.”

The Dodgers play the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series to begin the season, so the accelerated timeline doesn’t lend to much room for deviated schedules.

How Miguel Rojas can make an impact in 2025

The Dodgers don’t figure to rely on Rojas as much as they needed to last year with a need at shortstop. His versatility isn’t too valued at this point, but Rojas can still play as good of an infield as many around the league.

What Rojas did well is his ability to hit for a solid average. From Aug. 7 through the end of the year, he batted .304/.372/.417 with a 126 wRC+, providing the team with a solid piece to their everyday lineup.

In a reduced role, he just needs to be able to limit the strikeouts while being a plus-piece to their defensive rotation at any of shortstop, third base or second base.
