In the middle of a key game, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost their starting shortstop to an injury, adding another to the long list of players who have missed time for the club this season.

Miguel Rojas was in the starting lineup against the San Diego Padres, but he appeared to be uncomfortable on the bases after rounding third base in the fourth inning.

After getting back to the bag, Rojas was checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head trainer Thomas Albert. After a talk, he stayed in the game but was left stranded on third.

However, he was replaced in the top of the fifth inning by Andy Pages, who was inserted into center field with Tommy Edman sliding in to shortstop.

The Dodgers announced Rojas was dealing with left-groin tightness. After the game, Rojas said he’s been dealing with a left adductor/groin issue for three weeks, but it’s something he’s been managing.

“That’s the reason I’ve been getting off days here and there,” Rojas said.

Rojas is set to get an MRI and receive some treatment for the issue, but he hopes it won’t keep him out for too long.

“It’s that point of the year that you push through things,” Rojas said. “But hopefully with the opportunity to secure the division, I think it’s time for me to do something. I’m probably going to have to take a couple days, probably getting an injection to try to calm it down and be ready for what is really important, which is playing in the playoffs.”

Roberts added it’s “concerning” that the injury has popped up again just before the playoffs begin, but they’re hoping to get him back in the lineup for the season finale against the Colorado Rockies.

“That’s kind of the hope, so we’ll see,” Roberts said.

Miguel Rojas believes he can manage injury in playoffs

The positive news for Rojas is he believes he will be able to manage the issue through the playoffs, and the schedule in October should be a benefit to him.

“We figured out with the playoff schedule you’re never going to play more than three in a row,” Rojas said. “So hopefully my abilities to stay on top of it plus the little injection with the medicine helps. I’m going to give my all and we’ll see how we’re going to manage it.”
