Dodgers News: Michael Siani Has ‘A Little Bit Of A Chip’ On Shoulder

Michael Siani had one of the most eventful offseasons of any player in MLB as he was involved in multiple transactions before finding his way back to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Siani began the offseason with the St. Louis Cardinals, but he was claimed by the Atlanta Braves on Nov. 6, 2025. He stuck with the organization for about a month before he was designated for assignment when the Braves signed Mike Yastrzemski and added him to their 40-man roster.

The Dodgers then claimed Siani off waivers from the Braves, and they designated him for assignment a month later to make room for Kyle Tucker on their 40-man roster.

The New York Yankees would claim Siani off waivers, but it wasn’t long until he was designated for assignment a third time after the team acquired Angel Chivili from the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers then reclaimed Siani off waivers and he has remained with the organization ever since.

Siani discussed his journey back to L.A. and understands that baseball is a business, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“This game is a business,” he said. “Sometimes you learn that the hard way. Sometimes you learn that the easy way. I think it’s important to understand that.”

Siani is happy to be back with the Dodgers and believes he has something to prove in Spring Training:

“It does put a little bit of a chip on your shoulder,” Siani said. “All 30 teams had a chance to grab me. Luckily, the Dodgers held on to me to this point. It gives you more motivation and makes you want to be successful. You see the guys in this locker room and how successful a lot of them are. Them winning two championships in a row and some of them having even more shows how much they value winning here in this organization. It’s why a lot of people want to come here and play.”

Siani has appeared in three Cactus League games with the Dodgers so far, going 1-for-4 with one run scored and two walks.

He has limited MLB experience to this point, hitting just .221/.277/.270 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 160 games across parts of four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and Cardinals.

Although he doesn’t provide much in the way of offense, the 26-year-old is an elite defensive center fielder with plus speed.

Michael Siani’s role with Dodgers

Siani is competing for a spot on the Dodgers’ bench this spring. If he doesn’t make the team’s initial Opening Day roster, he could potentially begin the 2026 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

However, Siani can reject a Minor League assignment in order to become a free agent, and may elect to do so if he believes there is a better opportunity for him elsewhere.
