Dodgers News: Max Muncy Views Each Game As ‘New Start’

Max Muncy has been among the several Los Angeles Dodgers regulars plagued by bouts of inconsistency this season, and those struggles have again resurfaced in their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

After being shutout in Monday’s series opener, L.A. dropped a second consecutive game and now face the prospect of being swept. Muncy was one of the few bright spots in the Dodgers’ 7-4 loss, going 2-for-4 with a double and solo home run.

Muncy’s homer in the sixth inning broke a personal 0-for-14 skid, which followed a 3-for-4 performance in the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds last week.

It’s no secret Muncy has gone through several slumps this season, but he remains confident the results will eventually come and views every game as a new opportunity to start fresh, via SportsNet LA:

“Each day is a new start for me. That’s all I’m looking at. Each day is a blank slate to go out there and do something to help the team. As long as I can keep focusing on my process, I have faith things will get going for me. Like I said, this past week, the whole road trip really, I feel like I’ve been hitting the ball extremely hard. I’ve just got to keep focusing on that, keep focusing on the work I’ve been doing and going out there and helping the team.”

While Muncy has shown signs of potentially turning things around, he is still being affected by the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow that was suffered at the end of the regular season last year and may not fully recover until 2023.

Muncy is batting .167/.325/.302 with six doubles, six home runs and 21 RBI in 237 plate appearances this season (58 games).

Muncy trying to find balance with health & working on swing

Since returning from the 10-day injured list earlier this month, Muncy noted he has felt more like his old self but still needs to work on his swing mechanics while ensuring he gives his elbow enough time to recover.
