Max Muncy and Justin Turner electrified Dodger Stadium with their back-to-back home runs in the first inning on Monday night but the Los Angeles Dodgers failed to score after that and suffered a 7-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants.
The solo blasts came after Buster Posey and Wilmer Flores hit consecutive home runs to give the Giants a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Although it came in a losing effort, Muncy and Turner were part of MLB history as there were seven sets of back-to-back home runs across the sport.
Along with the Dodgers Giants players, the group consisted of the New York Mets’ Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil, and Kevin Pillar and Michael Conforto; Washington Nationals’ Juan Soto and Josh Bell; St. Louis Cardinals’ Dylan Carlson and Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks’ Pavin Smith and Josh VanMeter
Muncy’s homer was his 22nd this season, which leads the Dodgers. Of those, eight have come against the Giants.

Muncy’s power has come on after a slow start to the season in which he largely only reached base via walk. He since explained much of that stemmed from making mechanical adjustments to how opponents are pitching him.
Turner’s 17 home runs this season are second-most on the team. He’s been a consistent contributor throughout the year and was rewarded with a second career All-Star Game selection.
Muncy and Turner gave the Dodgers seven back-to-back home runs this season.
Muncy on standby
The Dodgers had Zach Reks on their taxi squad during the road series against the Colorado Rockies and continue to brace themselves for potentially losing Muncy to paternity leave as his wife Kellie is due to give berth to their child at any point now.
