The Los Angeles Dodgers had outfield prospects Matt Beaty and Yusniel Diaz named to the West roster for the 2017 Fall Stars Game. The 12th edition of the Fall Stars Game is being held at Salt River Fields on Saturday, Nov. 4, with first pitch set for 5:08 p.m. PT. It will be broadcast on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com.
Beaty and Diaz were among the eight prospects sent by the Dodgers to the Fall League. Beaty was selected by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2015 Draft. He spent the entire 2017 season with the Tulsa Drillers in what was his first experience at the Double-A level.
Beaty batted .326/.378/.505 with 31 doubles, 15 home runs and 69 RBI over 116 games. He led the Drillers in doubles and RBI, and tied for third in home runs, and paced the circuit in batting average and with an .883 on-base plus slugging percentage.
The standout performance earned him Texas League Player of the Year honors. In nine games for the Glendale Desert Dogs, Beaty is batting a lowly .171/.216/.371 with one double, two home runs and four RBI.
Diaz began the season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, where he hit .278/.343/.414 with 15 doubles, eight home runs and 39 RBI over 83 games before joining the Drillers in August. His success translated to Tulsa, as Diaz hit .333/.390/.491 with eight doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI in 31 games.
He is hitting .297/.357/.405 with one double, one home run and six RBI through 10 games in the Arizona Fall League. Diaz placed seventh in Jared Massey’s midseason ranking of Dodgers prospects.
Last year, the Dodgers had Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun and Alex Verdugo named to the annual Fall Stars Game. Verdugo was unable to participate and was replaced on the roster, while Calhoun went on to earn MVP honors.
