The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Luis Avilan from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to beginning their three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Avilan becomes the club’s 32nd active player and joins the team for a seventh stint this season.

He was recalled last week as the permissible 26th player for the nightcap of a doubleheader at Coors Field. Avilan collected two strikeouts over a scoreless inning of relief and earned the win in the Dodgers’ wild comeback.

On the season the 27-year-old owns a 5.40 ERA, 2.38 FIP and 1.29 WHIP in 11.2 innings over 17 games with the Dodgers.

Prior to allowing three runs in one-third of an inning on Aug. 7, Avilan held opponents to just two runs (one earned) in 9.2 innings across 12 games.

Avilan finished with a 4.24 ERA in 33 games for Oklahoma City. He last pitched on Saturday, completing a scoreless inning of work.

Los Angeles now has four left-handers in their bullpen, with Grant Dayton, J.P. Howell and Adam Liberatore also in the fold. Alex Wood is expected to join that group prior to season’s end.

After being traded to the Dodgers last July, Avilan posted a 5.17 ERA in 23 games. Avilan’s ERA wasn’t indicative of the fact that 17 of his games were scoreless appearances.
That led to the Dodgers often using him as a late-inning reliever down the stretch and into the postseason.
