The 2017 National League MVP Award went to Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, but the Los Angeles Dodgers had Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager appear on the final ballot.
Turner received three seventh-place votes, five eighth-place votes, five ninth-place votes, and sixth for 10th. He accumulated a total of 43 points, good for eighth overall in voting. Bellinger slotted right behind his teammate.
He garnered two sixth-place votes, three seventh-place votes, one eighth-place vote, six ninth-place votes and one 10th-place vote, amounting to 38 points.
Jansen received one vote for sixth place and one for eighth, while Kershaw was given one vote each for seventh and ninth place, and Seager drew two eighth-place votes.
Jansen was 15th in final voting, Kershaw checked in at 17th, and Seager was 18th.
Turner, in his fourth season with the Dodgers, batted .322/.415/.530 with 32 doubles, 21 home runs, 71 RBI and a 149 OPS+ in 130 games. The campaign was the best of his career since becoming a full-time player for Los Angeles.
Turner was in the midst of an MVP-caliber season but spent three weeks on the disabled list due to a hamstring strain. While it put a dent in his case for hardware, the 32-year-old earned his way to a first career All-Star Game selection by way of shattering the previous Final Vote record.
His regular-season success carried into the playoffs, as Turner went 6-for-13 with one home run and five RBI in three NL Division Series Games. A 6-for-18 with two home runs, including a walk-off homer, and seven RBI earned him co-MVP honors in the NL Championship Series.
Through four seasons with the Dodgers, Turner is batting .303/.378/.502 with 113 doubles, 71 home runs, 264 RBI and a 139 OPS+ in 516 games.
Bellinger, who earlier this week was the unanimous selection for NL Rookie of the Year, hit .267/.352/.581 with 26 doubles, 39 home runs and 97 RBI in 132 games.
He set the Dodgers’ all-time home run record for a rookie, surpassing Mike Piazza’s total of 35 in 1993, and broke the NL record of 38 that was shared by Wally Berger (1930) and Frank Robinson (1960).
Jansen, who won the Trevor Hoffman Award as the best NL relief pitcher, also received votes for the Cy Young Award. He went 5-0 with 41 saves, a 1.32 ERA, 1.31 FIP, 0.75 WHIP, 109 strikeouts and seven walks in 68.1 innings pitched across 65 games this season.
Kershaw was the runner-up to Max Scherzer for the Cy Young, marking a seventh consecutive finish in the top five of voting. Kershaw was 18-4 with a 2.31 ERA, 3.07 FIP and 0.95 WHIP. He led the NL in wins, ERA and a 6.73 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Seager hit .295/.375/.479 with 33 doubles, 22 home runs, 77 RBI, a .364 wOBA and 127 wRC+ in 145 games this season. He was a Gold Glove finalist and shortstop, and won a second straight Silver Slugger Award.
The Dodgers were represented by Seager (third place), Turner (ninth) and Yasmani Grandal (22nd) on the final 2016 NL MVP ballot.
