Dodgers News: Julio Urias Was Upset By Call On Mike Tauchman’s Check Swing

The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to seven games and swept a second consecutive series by defeating the San Francisco Giants, 11-5, on Sunday at Oracle Park.

Julio Urias improved to 7-1 behind another stellar start, giving up just two runs on three hits and striking out 10 batters in six innings pitched. “Really, really good. I think all three pitches were working for me,” he said after the game.

“Just like I’ve said before, going out there and attacking, try to get ahead, try to get a first-pitch strike and just keep attacking hitters.”

With six no-hitters already being thrown this season, Urias was in the midst of a perfect game before allowing a one-out infield single to Mike Tauchman in the sixth inning.

The left-hander was visibly frustrated after believing he had struck out Tauchman on a check swing one pitch before the hit. “A part of my frustration was I thought he swung at that pitch,” Urias said.

“I felt like his bat crossed that side of the plate and I got him to strike out. It just didn’t work out.”

In addition to dominating on the mound, Urias contributed with his bat as well. He went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, becoming the first Dodgers pitcher to drive in that many runs in a single game since Dan Haren in 2014.

“It was really fun. I said last week how difficult it was to get hits in the Major Leagues and put good at-bats together. Today it worked out,” Urias said.

“It’s one of those things I work on with Kershaw, Buehler and Bauer. We go up there and work on it during the week, and today it showed.”

Lux: ‘Fun to play defense’ behind Urias

Gavin Lux was among the Dodgers to praise Urias after his latest gem. “He was awesome. He was filling up the strike zone, he was working fast, his stuff was really good,” Lux said.

“It’s fun to play defense behind him when he’s filling it up like that and working fast. It’s nothing new at this point for Julio. Obviously he’s had a lot of success and he’s nasty, for sure.”
