The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have recalled reliever J.T. Chargois from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Saturday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies. His addition brings their active roster back to 25 players.

A vacant roster spot was created when the Dodgers optioned Walker Buehler to High-A Rancho Cucamonga before Friday’s series opener. That decision was made so that Buehler can build his innings base in a more controlled environment.

The Dodgers claimed Chargois off waivers from the Minnesota Twins before the start of Spring Training, and after a strong showing in camp, he made the Opening Day roster.

He got off to a good start to the season, but then began to struggle with his command which eventually led to him being optioned to Oklahoma City near the end of May.

In 20 games this season for the Dodgers, Chargois is 2-1 with a 4.76 ERA, 4.21 FIP and 1.71 WHIP while striking out 23 and walking 12 over 17 innings of work.

He has had a lot more success in his short time in Triple-A, posting a 1.80 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 15 games. Command has still been a bit of an issue though, as Chargois walked seven batters compared to just nine strikeouts in 15 innings.

The Dodgers bullpen has been a bit taxed of late, which has been one reason for the constant shuffling of the deck and sending relievers back and forth between the Majors and Oklahoma City.

Scott Alexander benefitted greatly from a short stint in the Minors, and the Dodgers are hoping that the same will be the case for Chargois.
