As part of filling out their bench the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Hanser Alberto, who is regarded as being a positive presence in the clubhouse and versatile infielder.
Although Alberto has only received minimal opportunities thus far with the Dodgers, he’s brought an infectious energy to the dugout. Alberto regularly is seen dancing by himself or with teammates to celebrate highlights, and on Wednesday his gesture after an Edwin Ríos home run went viral.
Dodgers broadcasters Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser referred to Alberto’s hand motion as grinding pepper.
In a response on Twitter about the celebration, Alberto said he’s referred to as pepper and Ríos is called salt. However, the initial tweet to the 29-year-old potentially was somewhat sarcastic when asking about pepper, and Alberto did include laughing emojis in his response.

Alberto’s celebration was for Ríos’ first home run of the season and one that extended the Dodgers’ lead in an eventual 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves to take the series at Dodger Stadium.
As for his part at the plate, Alberto is 2-for-9 with two RBI over five games (two starts) so far this season.
Roberts raves about Alberto
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has spoken highly of Alberto since the team signed him to a one-year contract, and did so again this week.
“He’s fantastic. He is a huge addition to this ballclub,” Roberts said. “His energy, his baseball acumen, his positivity and willingness to be ready when called upon and he’s a heck of a ballplayer. He’s been very additive.”
