The Los Angeles Dodgers made a significant roster move within their Minor League system on Wednesday as it was officially announced that one of their top prospects, shortstop Gavin Lux, was promoted from High-A Rancho Cucamonga to Double-A Tulsa.

Lux was a first-round pick of the Dodgers in 2016 out of Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and was in the midst of a breakout season with Rancho Cucamonga.

The 20-year-old struggled with the bat in his first two professional seasons, but in 88 games with the Quakes this season he hit .324/.396/.520 with 11 home runs, 48 RBI, 64 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

Lux played a big role as the shortstop and leadoff hitter of a first-place Quakes team that won a franchise-record 15 straight games at one point earlier this season.

Throughout the course of this season, Lux has been involved in some trade rumors as the Baltimore Orioles reportedly sought after him in their talks with the Dodgers for Manny Machado.

The Dodgers have been bullish on Lux all season though and refused to include him in any trades. He is currently the team’s No. 6 prospect according to MLB.com, although that number continues to rise.

His first taste of Double-A should be a good test for him the rest of the season. The Drillers are currently in first place in their Texas League North division with a 57-51 record.
