Gavin Lux was named the National League Player of the Week for July 15-21, 2024, marking the first time in his career he’s been honored with the feat.

Lux became the third Los Angeles Dodgers player to win the honor this season, following his All-Star teammates Shohei Ohtani (May 6 and June 24) and Teoscar Hernández (June 10).

Lux hit .556 (5-for-9) with two doubles, two homers, three RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base, .556 on-base percentage and 1.444 slugging percentage in three games last week. Most of the week was taken up by the All-Star break and just included the three games against the Boston Red Sox.

The 26-year-old led the NL in total bases (13), tied for the NL lead in homers and extra-base hits (four), and tied for second in hits.

Lux tied his season high with three hits on Sunday against the Red Sox, which included an RBI double in the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth. Along with his solo home run on Saturday, Lux homered in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.

The 20th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft had two hits on Saturday, marking one of four multi-hit games since July 11. Lux’s four extra-base hits over the two-game stretch were his most ever in a two-game span.

Lux is hitting .225 this season with five homers, 27 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples, 19 walks, 31 runs and a .609 OPS in 81 games. Since July 9th, he is batting .385 (10-for-26) with three homers, six RBI, two doubles, a walk, four runs, a .507 OBP and a 1.215 OPS.

Gavin Lux happy to contribute

Lux has struggled for the better part of the 2024 season, but he was happy to finally get some results at the plate. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also likes what he has been seeing from Lux in terms of his production and confidence.

He got off to a slow start this season in what is his first big league action since 2022 after missing all of last year due to a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee, but things may be turning around for the former top prospect.
