The Los Angeles Dodgers became just the seventh team in MLB history to reach 110 wins, and the first in the National League to accomplish the feat since the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates that were led by Honus Wagner.
Only the 2001 Seattle Mariners (116 wins), 1906 Chicago Cubs (116) and 1954 Cleveland Indians (111) have ever won more games than the 2022 Dodgers. The 1927 New York Yankees are the only other team to reach the 110-win mark as well.
“We’ve been talking about it the last few days, you’ve got to appreciate what’s going on,” Freddie Freeman said after the Dodgers’ 6-4 comeback victory against the Colorado Rockies.
“You never know if this could happen again. It’s hard to realize it when you’re doing it and we’re just trying to win each game every single night, but when you’re in the high-five line and you see (on the scoreboard), ‘New franchise record, 110 wins,’ you realize we’re doing something special.”
Prior to this season, the Dodgers franchise record for most wins was 106, shared by the 2019 and 2021 clubs. Entering Sunday, they have four games remaining to keep rewriting that record and potentially finish with the third-most wins in MLB history.
“I think it’s obviously a pretty cool number right now, but really digging into it and thinking about it, I don’t think now is the time to reflect on that,” Justin Turner said.
“There certainly will be a time when everything is said and done, to go back and look at all the accomplishments, but it’s certainly a fantastic season so far. A lot to be proud of.”
Dave Roberts: Dodgers focus remains on World Series
Throughout what’s been an historic season, the Dodgers have continued to emphasize their focus remains on winning the World Series. Manager Dave Roberts reiterated that sentiment after his club’s 110th win.
“I guess there’s trying to stay in the moment and trying to just keep playing good baseball. That’s a round number, a big number, so to celebrate that, I think is a great thing,” he said.
“Hopefully we’ll have this conversation [Sunday] with 111. I think our guys are in the moment, appreciating it, but also we’ve got our eye on some bigger things too.”
