Los Angeles Dodgers injuries were a prevailing theme throughout the first half of the season, but there is no need to be concerned over Freddie Freeman getting removed early from the finale of the Freeway Series last Saturday.
Freeman went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI prior to Yonny Hernández entering the game and Miguel Vargas moving from second base to first base. The Dodgers were leading 8-0 at the time, but Freeman had also just attempted to leg out a ground ball for an infield single in bottom of the fifth inning.
“I had like nine people ask me if I was OK,” Freeman said after the Dodgers’ win. “I was like, ‘What in the world? I’m fine.’ I am completely fine, 100%.
“I got asked like nine times when I came out of the game, ‘Are you alright?’ I was like, ‘When did I hurt myself?’ I guess it looked funny on TV, but absolutely, 100% completely fine going into the half.”
When informed some of the concern stemmed from what appeared to be an awkward lunge by Freeman, he chalked it up to his stature.
“I’m a big guy trying to beat out a ball,” Freeman said with a laugh. “Every time I slide, I cut myself. But I’m all good. I promise.”
Freeman went into the All-Star break batting .320/.396/.556 with 31 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, 61 RBI, 12 stolen bases and a 155 wRC+ while starting all 89 of the Dodgers’ games.
Freeman is on a six-game hitting streak and leads the Majors in doubles.
