The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Dylan Floro and optioned Tony Gonsolin to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday’s three-game series finale against Colorado Rockies.

Floro was placed on the IL due to neck inflammation, which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes could have contributed to some of Floro’s recent struggles. Although he tossed six scoreless innings over six appearances before allowing a run July 18, Floro walked four batters during that span.

Floro completed a simulated game, which then led to a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga. “It was really good, actually,” Roberts said of Floro facing Minor League hitters at Dodger Stadium. “He said he felt good, the execution was there, his body feels good.”

Floro’s scheduled one inning of work with the Quakes began with a strikeout but also saw him allow back-to-back singles and a hit batter to load the bases. A fly ball and out at home plate on a tag attempt ended the inning.

The 28-year-old has appeared in 37 games this season, going 4-3 with a 4.11 ERA, 3.66 FIP and 1.29 WHIP. Floro began the year with 16.1 scoreless innings through his first 15 appearances.

Gonsolin returns to Oklahoma City one day after completing a four-inning save in his first MLB relief appearance. When it became evident Gonsolin was due to be recalled, the initial assumption was he would start in place of Ross Stripling.

However, the Dodgers again elected to give Julio Urias a spot start — just his second since June 29. Urias pitched 2.2 innings and was followed by Casey Sadler getting the Dodgers through the fifth.

Gonsolin was working on four perfect innings as he retired the first 11 batters faced. Raimel Tapia’s two-out single in the ninth broke it up and led the only rune Gonsolin allowed.

Prior to Gonsolin, the Dodgers’ last four-out save was completed by Kenta Maeda against the Cincinnati Reds in June 2017. Gonsolin is the first Dodgers rookie to accomplish as much since Matt Herges, who also did so at Coors Field in 2000.

Urias has a pair of three-inning saves this season.
