As the calendar flipped to May, Major League Baseball is inching closer and closer to attempting to begin the 2020 regular season.

There still are a lot of hurdles that need to be cleared due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but every indication is MLB is doing whatever it can to get some sort of season in.

A number of potential plans have been laid out, such as playing all games in Arizona, Florida and Texas with no fans in attendance. The latest reports indicate they may actually be able to play the regular season at MLB home ballparks, although the divisions would likely be realigned since travel is an issue.

In the meantime, the Los Angeles Dodgers players are doing what they can to stay in shape for the 2020 season as their goal remains to get back to and win the World Series.

While some players like Clayton Kershaw have given a little pushback about some of the plans MLB has come up with, most seem on board with doing whatever it takes to get a season in.

Dustin May can be added to that category as in an interview on SportsNet LA, he said he’s willing to play with no fans in stadiums as long as it is safe:

“Me personally, I like having the fans in the stadium. But if that’s the only ability to get the games in, that’s what we’ve got to do to get it done. I want to play, for sure, as long as it’s safe and we’re able to. I’m good with that if that’s what it needs.”

If the 2020 season would have started on time then May likely would have begun the year with Triple-A Oklahoma City. With the potential for multiple doubleheaders per week and expanded rosters now though, there is no doubt that he will be contributing to big league club from the jump whenever play resumes.

As it currently stands, the beginning of July seems like the earliest date for the start of the regular season with three weeks of Spring Training beforehand. A lot would need to happen in the coming weeks for that to happen though, so only time will tell if that is realistic or not.
