Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Dustin May was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for his performance with Triple-A Oklahoma City during the period of July 22-28, 2019. It’s the third time in May’s career he’s received the weekly Minor League honor, and second this season.

May was previously named Pitcher of the Week by the California League behind a strong showing with High-A Rancho Cucamonga in May 2018, and while with Double-A Tulsa this season.

May went 2-0 in his outings during the week he was recognized for, allowing just one run in a combined 12 innings pitched. He collected 10 strikeouts against three walks and held opponents to a .154/.214/.205 batting line.

During that span, May allowed the fewest runs scored amongst PCL pitchers who logged at least eight innings, while additionally ranking fourth in ERA (0.75), WHIP (0.75) and strikeouts. His batting average against was good for fifth-best.

May improved to 3-0 with 2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 24 strikeouts across 27.1 innings pitched over five starts for Oklahoma City this season. He began the year with the Drillers, making 15 starts before earning a promotion.

May was named to the to the Texas League All-Star Game prior to joining Oklahoma City and also participated in the 2019 MLB Futures Game at Progressive Field.

The 21-year-old is ranked the Dodgers’ second-best prospect and No. 35 overall by MLB Pipeline in their 2019 midseason update.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman identified May, along with Tony Gonsolin, as a potential candidate to join the club and pitch out of the bullpen this September. Gonsolin has already made his MLB debut with a spot start and appears poised for a second.

Meanwhile, May continues to be coveted in reported trade talks. As the Dodgers seek to improve their bullpen ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, May has been among the prospects to receive interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a potential Felipe Vazquez deal.
