Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Wants Bobby Miller To Control Emotions

Bobby Miller is looking for a fresh start with the Los Angeles Dodgers after a disappointing 2024 season in which he was plagued by injuries and inconsistency.

Miller went 2-4 with an 8.52 ERA, 6.98 FIP and 1.77 WHIP in 56 innings over just 13 starts for the Dodgers. He was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 10 and started only six more games for the Dodgers after that.

As Miller attempts to bounce back, manager Dave Roberts wants to see the 25-year-old compose himself better on the mound. “I want to see controlling of emotions, I want to see better execution of pitches, I want to see better sequencing and using his pitch mix the right way,” Roberts said of Miller’s development.

“I think all those things weren’t in sync last year. I do believe he’s healthy, with a lot of work on his part. So I think if that’s the case, good things are going to happen.”

Miller reported to Camelback Ranch with a positive mindset and was among the standouts.

“I think Yoshinobu is coming really good. I think Tanner Scott, just kind of seeing him. I think Bobby is really on his way back to re-establishing himself,” Roberts recently said. “There’s just a lot of good things going on. Teo looks fantastic. I just feel we’re all in a good spot.”

Unfortunately, Miller’s spring progression was interrupted with being hit in head by a comebacker. He went into concussion protocol and managed to throw a bullpen session but is yet to get back into a Cactus League game.

Blake Snell downplays mentoring Bobby Miller

Miller has spent a lot of time with Blake Snell throughout Spring Training, which led some to belief that the veteran has taken the young pitcher under his wing.

However, Snell downplayed the notion that he has emerged as a mentor to Miller and positioned more as simply wanting to help him in any facet.
