New York Mets’ Buck Showalter was voted 2022 National League Manager of the Year. He garnered eight first-place votes and 77 points overall.

Showalter as been voted Manger of the Year four times in his career, with each award coming for a different team. In 1994 he took the honor home as New York Yankees manager, then while guiding the Texas Rangers in 2004, and at the helm of the Baltimore Orioles in 2014.

Showalter joined Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa as the only four-time Manager of the Year winners. He additionally broke a tie with La Russa by winning the award with a fourth different team.

Los Aneles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts placed second in 2022 NL Manager of the Year voting. He tied Showalter in receiving eight first-place votes, but garnered only 57 overall points.

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker had seven first-place votes and 55 total points to finish third.

Each of the three finalists guided their respective team to 100-win seasons, only to fall short of expectations in the playoffs. And in Showalter’s case, the Mets squandered a 10.5-game lead in the NL East to lose the division to the Braves.

Despite several long-term injuries to key contributors this past season, Roberts oversaw a Dodgers team that set a franchise record with 111 wins. That came one year after tying what was then a record with 106 wins in 2021.

Among all managers in MLB history, Roberts’ four seasons of at least 100 wins is tied for third-most. All other managers on the list have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, where Roberts presumably will be enshrined .

In seven seasons as Dodgers manager, Roberts is 653-380 (.632) and has led the team to the playoffs every year, to go along with six NL West titles, three pennants and one World Series championship. Roberts’ winning percentage is the highest of any manager in MLB history (minimum 315 games).

It’s bested only by Negro League managers Bullet Rogan, Vic Harris and Rube Foster.

Dave Roberts’ history in Manager of the Year voting

Roberts won Manager of the Year in 2016 and finished in second place the following year. Roberts fell to sixth place in 2018, followed by finishing fourth in 2019, and fifth place in both 2020 and 2021.
