Dodgers News: Danny Espinosa Released From Organization

Whether filling out the fringes of their 25-man active roster or their Minor League affiliates, Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has made it a priority to stockpile depth.

Over recent years it’s netted them unexpected production and significant contributions from the likes of Charlie Culberson, Brandon Morrow and Max Muncy, among others. The Dodgers bolstered their Triple-A Oklahoma City infield a few weeks ago by signing Danny Espinosa to a Minor League contract.

He joined the organization shortly after getting released by the Toronto Blue Jays. Prior to that, the veteran infield was cut by the New York Yankees during Spring Training.

He’s on the move once again as the Dodgers released Espinosa, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

The 31-year-old was a mere 9-for-60 (.150 batting average) with a .203 on-base percentage in 19 games with Oklahoma City. Espinosa did have one double, two home runs and six RBI.

It was a downward trend from his production with Triple-A Buffalo (Blue Jays affiliate), when Espinosa hit .232/.271/.286 with three doubles, five runs scored and two RBI.

Espinosa spent a portion of last season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays. Over eight Major League seasons, he’s hit .221/.297/.378 with 139 doubles and 98 home runs.

Espinosa spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Washington Nationals, who selected him out of California State University, Long Beach, in the third round of the 2008 Draft.
