The Los Angeles Dodgers’ time in a first-place tie with the San Francisco Giants atop the National League West was short lived. San Francisco pulled a half-game ahead by the time the Dodgers began their afternoon matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Through the first two games of the series the Dodgers pounded Phillies pitchers for 18 runs on 24 hits, including seven home runs. With Los Angeles in position to complete a three-game sweep, Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson turned in a strong start.

He allowed one run and walked the bases loaded in the first inning but settled in after that. Hellickson retired 13 straight batters before being removed after five innings due to back tightness.

While the Dodgers were largely held in check, Corey Seager went 2-for-3 with one double. Seager was also hit by a pitch, which led to x-rays, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

The results of Seager’s x-rays were negative, per J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group:

Seager immediately dropped to the ground in pain and grabbed at his right wrist. Dodgers head athletic trainer Nate Lucero and manage Dave Roberts rushed out of the dugout to check on the young shortstop, who remained in the game.

The Dodgers have an off-day Thursday, and another on Monday, then will play 16 consecutive games.
