Dodgers News: Corey Seager Out Of Lineup Vs. Giants Due To ‘Tightness’ In Hip

The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their homestand not only with a disappointing series loss to the Miami Marlins but facing some concern with Corey Seager. Already without Justin Turner, losing Seager to injury would decimate the left side of the infield.

Seager lost his footing and awkwardly fell while going back on a pop fly hit to shallow left field in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s loss. He was checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer before remaining in the game.

Seager received treatment after the loss and said he largely felt fine. Nonetheless, he was not in the lineup against the San Francisco Giants on his 24th birthday.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group, Seager said his hip is not quite 100 percent but it still is not considered a serious issue:

#Dodgers Corey Seager said he still has a little discomfort in the front of the right hip. “A little tightness, a little sore but nothing to worry about.” Giving it another day “so it doesn’t go backwards”

In addition to erring on the side of caution with Seager, the Dodgers’ decision to provide him with a night of rest was made easier considering they’re facing left-handed starter Derek Holland.

Seager is batting .253/.347/.368 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and nine RBI, having appeared in all 22 games (21 starts) this season. Seager will have ample opportunity to be in the lineup moving forward, as Friday marked the start of 11 games in 10 days for the Dodgers.
