Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger Not Satisfied With Winning NL Player Of The Week

Cody Bellinger is in the midst of a bounce-back season that has helped the Los Angeles Dodgers get off to a strong start and earned him National League Player of the Week honors for April 18-24.

Bellinger started in each of the Dodgers’ six games during that span, batting .304/.307/.870 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and seven RBI. Included in that was a 14th career multi-homer game.

It’s the fourth time Bellinger has earned NL Player of the Week, and an honor he was appreciative of earning, via SportsNet LA:

“It definitely feels good. It’s just a week, but it’s better than not winning it, I guess. I’m just coming in every day, focusing on what’s important, trying to be consistent and stay healthy.”

Bellinger went on to dismiss the idea that being named NL Player of the Week serves as any sort of validation and he will maintain the same focus and approach:

“It definitely feels good, but I don’t think in baseball you ever have it figured out, you know what I mean? It’s always a game of adjustments. It’s one of the hardest games. But it definitely feels good. I’m not going to sit here and lie about it. It feels good, but at the end of the day I want to keep going. I’m not going to let it affect me either way. I’m not going to stop working or vice versa. Just another day today.”

Having started in all 16 of the Dodgers’ games so far, Bellinger is batting xx. He leads the team in home runs (four), total bases (32) and slugging percentage.

Bellinger’s Dodgers franchise record

Bellinger is no stranger to holding franchise records, and his 14 career multi-home run games are the most in Dodgers history by a player through his age-26 season.

Even amidst a slow start to the year, Bellinger continued to emphasize he was feeling healthy and encouraged results would improve. That confidence was shared by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on multiple occasions as well.

“A really big boost for all of us,” Roberts said of Bellinger’s season thus far. “I just expected him to be a big contributor for our ballclub in the batter’s box and defensively. He’s healthy, he looks physical, he’s strong.

“I just want him to go out there and compete. As far as OPS or raw numbers, I didn’t have any expectations. I just wanted him to help us win ballgames.”
