Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger was named the National League Player of the Week for games played June 19-25. It’s the second time Bellinger has taken home the honor, previously being recognized for May 1-7, which was his first full week with the Dodgers.
Starting in all seven games last week, Bellinger hit .370/.400/1.037 with three doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI. He played first base, left field and right field during that span.
On Sunday, Bellinger became the fastest player to six multi-home run games. He did so in 57 career games, which shattered Mark McGwire’s MLB record of 97 games.
Bellinger also broke Mike Piazza’s Dodgers rookie record for most multi-home run games in the process. What’s more, Bellinger’s 24 home runs this season are the most by any Dodgers player in the first half of a season since Shawn Green hit 26 in 2002.
Overall this season, he’s batting .274/.342/.679 with 13 doubles, one triple and 55 RBI, in addition to the 24 home runs. Despite missing the first three weeks of the season, Bellinger leads the NL in home runs.
He trails New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge by two homers for the Major League lead. In addition to his two weekly honors, Bellinger was also named the NL Player of the Month for May.
