Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Still On Track After Scratched Start

Clayton Kershaw has continued to make good progress on his rehab assignment thus far, but that process was interrupted Tuesday.

Kershaw was scheduled to make a start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, but was scratched from the outing because of expected inclement weather. The game ultimately was postponed and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader for Thursday.

“Shouldn’t set him back unless it rains for like a week straight,” Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior said.

The Dodgers are targeting five innings and 75 pitches for Kershaw in his start on Wednesday, as he continues to build up.

Manager Dave Roberts believes Kershaw is in a good spot in his rehab.

He has made two starts thus far, split between the OKC Comets and Double-A Tulsa Drillers. Kershaw’s second start came with the Drillers, and was not as clean as his first outing, but he did manage to double his pitch count.

Kershaw is eligible to be activated off the 60-day injured list on Saturday, May 17.

What’s next for Clayton Kershaw?

While Kershaw not getting to pitch wasn’t viewed as any sort of setback, it nevertheless causes some sort of adjustment. Kershaw was expected to start for the Comets on Tuesday then again Sunday, pitching on normal rest for the first time during his rehab assignment.

The Minor League schedule now becomes a factor as well, as teams do not play on Mondays.

“We were prepping for that situation, obviously, because the Mondays are off in the Minor Leagues. I think the plan right now is to see if he can get into a game [Wednesday] in Oklahoma City, weather permitting, because I think it’s still a little questionable,” Prior said.

“And then once we get that, then we’ll have an idea, but I don’t think it’ll set him back,” Prior said.
