It has been just over two weeks since the Los Angeles Dodgers were crowned World Series champions, putting to bed over three decades worth of postseason frustrations in the process.
For Clayton Kershaw, the longest-tenured player in the organization, getting to be part of the Dodgers’ first World Series championship since 1988 has been all the more memorable.
Prior to this year, the left-hander had accomplished virtually everything with the exception of winning a World Series title. Now officially a champion, he is continuing to relish the moment.
During an appearance on the “This Is Our Year” special, Kershaw revealed that he has played Queen’s “We Are The Champions” every day since the Dodgers won the World Series, via SportsNet LA:
“I told JT, I just play ‘We are the Champions’ over and over again throughout our house every day. When people walk by I put it out in the front yard just to make sure people remember that we won. I’m dead serious about that. I play it every day. My kids are sick of it already. It’s such an incredible feeling. I’m just trying not to forget it.”
Coming off a stellar regular season in which he finished ninth in National League Cy Young Award voting, Kershaw went on to shine during the playoffs as well.
In five starts, he accumulated a 4-1 record with a 2.93 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 30.2 innings, registering 37 strikeouts against five walks.
The excellent showing helped Kershaw flip the narrative after struggling in past postseasons. Some of his teammates, including Julio Urias, were thrilled by and recognized the significance of Kershaw adding a World Series title to his resumé.
Kershaw not concerned with legacy
Even after finally winning it all, Kershaw dismissed the idea that his legacy is something that concerns him. “I don’t care at all, man. We won the World Series,” he said after Game 6.
“The 2020 Dodgers won the World Series. Who cares about all that other stuff? To be a part of that team, all that other stuff is just pointless. It doesn’t matter. We won. It’s great.”
