Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw ‘At Peace’ With Retirement

Clayton Kershaw capped off his illustrious career by helping the Los Angeles Dodgers become baseball’s first champion in 25 years.

The left-hander made two appearances out of the bullpen during the playoffs and had a signature moment in Game 3 of the World Series, when he helped the team escape a bases-loaded jam in the 12th inning. L.A. went on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-5, in 18 frames.

Kershaw is now preparing for one last ride with Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, marking the first time he will participate in the event.

Kershaw is looking forward to potentially pitching in the international tournament, but confirmed has no interest in returning to MLB, via Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

“I don’t want to,” he said. “You can’t end it better than I did last year. I had a great time last year. It was an absolute blast and honor to be on that team. I think that was the perfect way to end it. Honestly, I don’t know if I would have enough in the tank to pitch for a full season again. I’m really at peace with that decision.

“This is kind of a weird one-off thing, but you can’t really turn down this opportunity. It wasn’t easy to get ready for this, with no motivation for a season, but I actually am in a pretty good spot with my arm. I’ll be fine. If they need me, I’ll be ready.”

Kershaw previously said he was accepting of his decision to retire as he wants to spend more time with his family. He and his wife, Ellen, recently welcomed their fifth child together.

The future Hall of Famer will still have a presence in baseball as he was hired by NBC Sports to be a studio analyst for their MLB coverage this season.

Kershaw could also eventually accept a position with the Dodgers in their front office, similar to the likes of Joel Peralta and Chase Utley.

Kershaw confirmed that he will be at Dodger Stadium on March 27 when the Dodgers receive their championship rings. The ceremony will take place before the team’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
