When the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic made its way to the United States, governors immediately began issuing stay-at-home orders to flatten the curve.

While the strategy proved effective, it unintentionally lead to other problems. Those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking became even more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse due to the lockdowns implemented.

To help raise awareness to this, Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, and his wife, Ellen, are “racing to rescue those trapped in violence and slavery” in the form of a family bike and scooter ride on Sunday, June 6.

Every dollar raised will be donated to help the International Justice Mission (IJM) respond to the most critical needs, whether it’s rescue operations, providing medical supplies to local authorities, or supporting survivor restoration.

When the darkness in the world feels overwhelming, find a way to take action & bring light to it. On June 6th, our family is “racing to rescue” those trapped in violence and slavery. Together with Cali and Charley, we're doing a family bike and scooter ride to raise awareness and critical funds to help protect those who are unsafe during lockdown. Children and women around the world are trapped at home with their abusers and millions of people are susceptible to being trafficked and enslaved. Now more than ever, they need our help to break free from their abusers. Every dollar goes to help International Justice Mission (IJM) respond to the most critical needs, whether it's rescue operations, donating medical supplies to local authorities, or supporting survivor restoration. We can all do something to bring more light into this world. Link in profile.

A goal of $50,000 was set, and as of Tuesday afternoon, over $1,400 had been raised. The Kershaws’ humanitarian work over the years is well-documented, having raised funds for numerous charities and organizations.

This year, they named The Dream Center in Los Angeles as one of the beneficiaries of Kershaw’s Challenge.

Last month, over $85,000 was raised for COVID-19 relief efforts being carried out by the Los Angeles Dream Center and Behind Every Door (Dallas). Clayton and Ellen generated the support by matching donations over a two-week period.

Along with the Kershaws, Justin and Kourtney Turner, Max and Kellie Muncy, Chris Taylor, Corey Seager and his fiancé Madisyn, have also purchased food from local restaurants for it to be delivered to The Dream Center for their daily meal program.

Like Justin and Kourtney, the Kershaws have frequently partnered with the local nonprofit organization. Most notably, Kershaw’s Challenge holds an annual Back To School Bash at The Dream Center, providing underserved youth with backpacks, other necessary supplies and health screening.
