As the Los Angeles Dodgers reach the final days of Spring Training, Chris Taylor is set to co-host the first annual “Home Run for Hope” charity event to raise awareness for childhood cancer. The virtual concert is taking place Friday, March 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT.
A ticket can be purchased with a minimum $40 donation on www.homerunforhope.com. All proceeds benefit the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Roc Solid Foundation in support of the fight against pediatric cancer.
The one-night-only evening of music will feature giveaways and auction items, including Dodgers memorabilia. Country music stars Brad Paisley, Jake Owen and Scotty McCreery are among the scheduled performers.
Also scheduled to appear during the event are Shy Carter, Tierra, D. Vincent Williams and Alexander Ludwig. There additionally will be surprise guests and a unrevealed artist to close out the show. Joe Davis is co-hosting alongside Taylor.
“It should be really good. We’re going to have a silent auction going at the same time, so we’ll be auctioning off sports memorabilia, a lot of Dodgers stuff,” Taylor said. “Guys were nice enough to sign some things for me and we’re going to auction them off.
“It should be a fun night.”
Taylor was moved to establish the CT3 Foundation due to being personally affected by osteosarcoma. Kyle Profilet, a childhood friend of Taylor’s, lost a two-and-a-half year battle with to bone cancer in 2019.
Taylor’s girlfriend also lost a childhood friend, and a Virginia Beach neighbor and friend, Dalton Fox, is currently fighting the cancer.
“It’s something I’m passionate about,” Taylor said. “I think cancer is something that’s affected everybody in some way. If it’s not sarcoma, some form of cancer has. I just felt it was important to use my platform. That’s something I’m passionate about.
“Hopefully we can raise a lot of money and make a difference.”
As explained on the “Holding Kourt” podcast, when Taylor formed the CT3 Foundation, the goal was to hold a charity event at Top Golf in his hometown of Virginia Beach. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced an adjustment, and after mulling over options, the virtual concert was decided on.
Taylor riding momentum from offseason
As for matters on the field, Taylor has put together an impressive showing throughout Spring Training. “It’s encouraging to play well and it kind of encourages everything you’ve done in the offseason,” he said.
“It’s re-assuring to know you’re in a good spot and the hard work you put in is paying off.”
