Dodgers News: Chris Taylor Trying To Rediscover Power Swing

The Los Angeles Dodgers struggled to get anything going offensively in Sunday’s Freeway Series loss to the L.A. Angels, but it wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities.

The club mustered just four hits but they tied a season high with nine walks and had at least one baserunner in eight of nine innings. “I don’t know. It was definitely the story of the game,” Chris Taylor said of the Dodgers’ inability to score runs.

“We’re working counts and getting guys on base, just can’t do what it takes to drive them in, it seems like. We’ve just got to keep grinding. I thought [Saturday] night we did a good job kind of taking what they give us, not trying to do too much, using the whole field.

“I think when you do that and just take your single, so to speak, good things tend to happen. Saw that in our game [Saturday]. Give credit to them, but we weren’t able to put balls in play and find the holes.”

Taylor was responsible for one of the Dodgers’ four hits in Sunday’s loss to the Angels, extending his hitting streak to four games. The 30-year-old is 5-for-15 during the stretch, but only one of those hits has gone for extra bases.

“I’ve been feeling OK. Just trying to have good at-bats. My swing is not where it was a week or two ago,” Taylor said. “I haven’t been driving the ball as I would like to, but despite that, just trying to continue to work through it, have good at-bats and find a way to get on base.

“I’ve had singles here and there, worked in some walks, but there’s not slug recently. I’m just trying to work through that.”

While Taylor’s power numbers have been down recently, he’s still in the midst of a terrific all-around season. In 31 games, he’s batting .276/.415/.476 with five doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBI over 130 plate appearances.

Taylor puzzled why Dodgers can’t generate momentum on offense

The Dodgers’ latest offensive woes came just one day after scoring 14 runs and tallying 17 hits. “I don’t know. I wish I had the answer,” Taylor said of the team not being able to generate momentum on offense.

“It happened last week, too. The last game in Milwaukee, we put up a bunch of runs and then kind of sputtered out once we got to Chicago. I don’t have an answer for you. I wish I did.

“They’ll come. We’ve just got to keep working through it and put our head down. We’re too talented for it not to turn around.”
