The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Chin-Hui Tsao, and optioned Mike Bolsinger to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Thursday’s Freeway Series finale. The roster move was the second in as many days for the Dodgers.
Bolsinger, who was reinstated from the disabled list on Wednesday, allowed three runs in 4.1 innings in his debut his season. He was utilized in a spot start to provide the starting rotation with an extra day of rest during the current 20-games-in-20-days stretch.
Tsao completed his improbable comeback last July, appearing in a Major League game for te first time since 2007. The Taiwanese native went 1-1 with a 10.29 ERA, 7.99 FIP, 2.57 WHIP, seven strikeouts and three walks over seven innings in five games for the Dodgers last season.
Tsao’s inflated ERA was a byproduct of allowing six runs in 0.2 innings of a blowout loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field on July 25. He otherwise allowed two runs over his four other appearances.
In 30 games with Oklahoma City last season, Tsao went 2-1 with seven saves, a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 42 strikeouts and 11 walks. He also pitched in four games with Double-A Tulsa in 2015, going 0-1 with two saves, 7.20 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.
Tsao re-signed with the Dodgers on a Minor League deal in February. He was 1-1 with six saves and a 3.31 ERA over 17 games with Oklahoma City this season, including a streak of 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings in his last eight games since April 29.
With Tsao added, the Dodgers’ 40-man roster is now full.
