Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Working His Way Back From ‘Rock Bottom’

The past two seasons have not gone the way Bobby Miller and the Los Angeles Dodgers envisioned for the former top prospect.

After putting together a great rookie season in 2023, Miller lost his spot in the Dodgers’ rotation in 2024 after a disastrous 13 appearances to start the year.

All of the promise from his six-inning, 11-strikeout outing against the St. Louis Cardinals during the home opener at Dodger Stadium quickly vanished and remains one of the Dodgers’ most perplexing mysteries of the past handful of seasons.

A potential bounce-back season in 2025 was quickly derailed after he was hit in the head with a line drive in his first Spring Training appearance. The injury slowed his buildup and prevented him from being able to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

He received a spot start later on in the season, but it was unfortunately more of the same.

With another clean slate in 2026, he is focused on getting back to the point he was at in 2023 and eventually surpassing that.

“That’s the motivation for me right now, to get back to how I was a few years ago,” Miller said. “I know it’s still in there, and there’s more than that as well.”

The former No. 24 overall prospect in baseball and No. 2 in the Dodgers’ system is not deterred by the circumstances he finds himself in and is eager to put in the work to fix it. “Starting from rock bottom and working my way back up, just like I did before,” he said.

While the past two years have been a struggle, they have also taught Miller a valuable lesson that he hopes to carry with him in 2026.

“The big thing for me is just not trying to panic,” he said. “I found myself doing that a little bit last year, just worrying so much about getting back to the big leagues.”

Miller has an uphill battle ahead of him as he is buried deep on the starting pitcher depth chart, and the bullpen is similarly crowded. Still, he has the stuff to eventually be an impact pitcher, if he can figure out the issues that plagued him.

Bobby Miller trade rumors

Miller and outfield prospect Ryan Ward are two names rumored to be on the trade block and could be moved should the Dodgers need to clear up space on the 40-man roster at any time.

Both players don’t have a clear role on the team as they are blocked by multiple players ahead of them.
