Injuries created another opportunity for Bobby Miller in the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation amid what’s been an inconsistent season on a personal level, but he too is also not 100%.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert checked on Miller in the second inning Thursday night after he covered first place to record an out. Kiké Hernández was first to signal for assistance from the dugout as he saw Miller shout in discomfort and limp.
“It was just the left knee. It’s something I’ve been dealing with for a while. Our training staff has done an outstanding job of keeping me healthy and keeping me out there, so I’m really thankful for them,” Miller explained after the game.
“But yeah, everything just kind of went downhill after that. I wasn’t finishing my pitches as good, and losing some stuff arm side. But it’s no excuse to not make a pitch.”
Miller had more trouble with his left knee in the fifth inning as he wasn’t able to get to first base in time for a potential double play. That led to Colton Cowser hitting a three-run home run that cut the Dodgers’ lead to 5-3.
“I felt pretty good. It was four and two-thirds (innings) of really good pitching and just one bad pitch. That seems to be the story of my last few outings,” Miller said.
“It’s just one bad pitch that I want to look back on. Unfortunately, it’s over the fence. One day soon it will fall.”
Dodgers not worried about Bobby Miller’s injury
Despite the 25-year-old dealing with a seemingly minor injury, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts doesn’t believe it will be an issue moving forward and thought Miller fared well against the Baltimore Orioles.
“You could see it wasn’t feeling well, and I don’t know if that led to the home run. But up until that point, I thought he threw the ball fantastic,” Roberts said.
“He was mixing. I would’ve liked him to be a little more efficient. But yeah, overall, I thought really good.”
