Dodgers News: Andy Pages Decides Against Playing In 2026 World Baseball Classic

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be represented at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, with three players currently set to make their country’s roster.

Clayton Kershaw and Will Smith are suiting up for Team USA, while Shohei Ohtani is joining Team Japan. There is still time for more names to be added to this list, such as Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki. The pair have not yet been selected, but the Dodgers have given their full support if they are.

Andy Pages would have been eligible to join Team Cuba’s roster for the WBC, but he has chosen to sit out this tournament, according to Yordano Carmona of Pelota Cubana USA:

⚾🇨🇺 Pelota Cubana spoke with Andy Pagés, and the outfielder confirmed he will not be playing for Team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic.

Pages took a promising step forward in his second Major League season and looks to be part of the Dodgers’ young core going forward.

He improved upon his 2024 season in many major categories at the plate, batting .272/.313/.461 with 27 doubles, 27 home runs and 86 RBI, which translated to a 113 wRC+. His 27 homers were ninth-best in the Majors among players 25 or younger.

However, Pages didn’t end the season on a high note. He struggled mightily in the playoffs, batting .078/.113/.098 in 51 at-bats.

He also made multiple mistakes defensively and on the basepaths during the early part of the 2025 season, often times making notable contributions to losses. While he improved in those areas as the season went on, dedicating the offseason to continue building his skillset will be very beneficial.

Teoscar Hernández and Kiké Hernández not participating in WBC

Teoscar Hernández has also decided to skip out on joining Team Dominican Republic for the WBC in the interest of giving his body extra rest and to focus on the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Kiké Hernández intended to play for Team Puerto Rico but the recovery from left elbow surgery will prevent him from doing so. It was devastating news for the 34-year-old, who had been especially looking forward to this WBC because Puerto Rico is the host nation of Pool A.
